Universities: 2050
Description:
Universities have been around for a very long time, but they currently face a number of forces that could change their form or function in the future. No one knows exactly how all of that will play out, so this seminar will depart from our usual speaker-focussed format and use a Delphi-inspired process, starting even before the day of the seminar, to collect, discuss and shape our own views.
Please share your own views on what Universities will look like in 2050 by participating in a short survey by the 3rd of August. Anonymised responses will be used to create composite scenarios reflecting participant views.
Later in August, those who participated in the survey will have an opportunity to view the scenarios and indicate how likely they believe each one to be.
The seminar itself will start with a reminder of what the scenarios were along with revealing the aggregated results showing how likely the group, as a whole, thinks each scenario is.
Most of the rest of the seminar will be spent discussing the scenarios and the factors participants believe make some more likely than others. Then at the end of the seminar there will be another opportunity to provide individual assessments of the likelihood of each scenario and we’ll get to see the overall results showing if and how the consensus of the group has shifted following our discussion.
Please feel free to get in touch with Mary Ellen if you have any questions about how any of that will work, and remember to participate in the survey no later than the 3rd of August.
